I did 1u SoR and I only had to do the core topic (Aboriginal Spirituality and Australia post 1945), and 2 religious beliefs (my school did Christianity and Islam) which I think your teacher will choose. The HSC exam for 1u is only 1h 30 mins whereas 2u is 3hrs because you do a fuckload more topics.
From the subjects you listed in your sig, you'd have 14 units if you did 2U SoR which is a lot of work. IMO SoR is the biggest waste of time. I got 44/50 as my HSC mark for 1U SoR and I crammed the night before. I would've liked a Band 6 in SoR though =(

its pointless but good for your ATAR (because its easy and scales reasonably well)
My school is similar to yours, however this year (apparently) there is no SOR II
Does SOR I scale better than SOR II?

The either scale the same or SORII scales better, because SORII is double the work, they mightn't reward you for doing more, but they won't penalise you.
Fuckin' I do SORII. It's way better than SORI, I know this coz I'm an atheist.
That's pretty much how my essays read and I'm getting 80% atm in SORII.
