I'm sorry to post this thread here but I am only doing this because i believe u guys r the smartest on this website.
Any advice would be largely appreciated,
My queries r studying tips and hours required for yr 10. Im currently doing 5.3 Maths, advanced english and advanced science but i still need to work out very effective study techniques, so any of u out there who know ones that work please share. Also how many hours would u guys recommend for a yr 10 student wanting to get really high SC results and go extremely well in his HSC because i need the advice.

Treat SC and HSC as full time job in addition to school. I.e. 8 hour day (not including a 'lunch break') shift AFTER school is over. 8 hour study a day + school will get very, very high SC and HSC mark. Parents very happy. Thanksyou.

8 hrs seems a little over the top if u include a normal life with studying. I am told by very successful people that no more than 2 hrs is enough because its important not to wear urself out and thats from people who got 98 in their ATAR.
I would bet u didn't do 8 hrs.

Ok I also have a job so that means 3 jobs? Haha i come home 3:30 study for 8 hrs so then it becomes 11:30 and I won't have time to eat shower or do annoying else. When I work and finish at 5:30 that means I sleep at 1:30 am? Seriously ur crazy.

Eight hours after school for a whole year will just make you burn out. There's no point to it either. An hour or two after school, and a bit more on weekends is more than fine.

Well done for them, thats great. But they are probably naturally gifted with talent and memory like a computer, i have to work to memorize and thats the problem with studying.

Everyone is different, if you are not so bright like I am then study more. A lot of smart people will tell you that they don't study a lot and all that bull crap. I can tell you more than half the time they are BSing. Here's my advice, don't worry about how much others study and see for yourself how much you need to study. If you need to study 3 hours each night to keep up with other students, then go ahead and study 3 hours.
When you get to the HSC, all that matters is hardwork.

Why would you even need to achieve an exceptional result in the SC? 0-0.5 hours for that. I spent 30 mins after school and got all 6's, granted they were low 90s.
For HSC I would say 2 hours after school, cause I'm doing that right now and it feels better than doing nothing and it's just right for me, an average student.
For half yearly and trials I was told to bump it up to 3 after school, not including coaching/tutoring/hardcore cramming at dodgy Asian place.

Basically keep this schedule and you should be fine.

take year 10 easy, start putting in a bit of effort in year 11 and go all out in year 12. 2-3 hours during weekdays and 4 hours during weekends is sweet for year 12

Protip: over school holidays and stuff, for year 12, try to study during normal school hours, and have the afternoons off, not only will it be more productive, it'll keep you in check for when you return.

As you can see different people have different ideas. How many hours/day you need to put in on average also depends on how bright you are.

Personally I'd spend maybe 2 - 3 hrs per day with a day off each week for socialising/relaxation. For maths make sure you master all your work - much of it will come back to benefit you enormously in yrs 11 & 12. If you can complete the exercises in Signpost Maths (Advanced) Yr 10 - Chp 12 [Further Geometry], Chp 13 [Curve sketching & Polynomials], Chp 14 [Functions & Logarithms] you'd have covered a lot of the work in 2U & MX1. If you master Chp 12,you'd have done Circle Geometry for MX1. If you master Chp 13 & 14 you'd have done most of the 2U work on logarithms, indices, quadratic function/parabola etc. That's what I'd do if I were doing Yr 10 now. By the time I get to Yr 11 & 12 I'm well ahead so I have lots of time to excel or if I don't want to do too well, I can take it easy. But that's just me of course. Other people have other philosophy of course.

You can study all those Chapters yourself, if necessary.
