Taking that into account it seems unlikely a complete meltdown of two (if not all three) of the reactors can be stopped now with Japanese officials reporting two of the reactors may have breached their containment shells.

Two Australian rescue workers were also exposed to radiation (low amounts) after their helicopter had to make an emergency landing at an airport 2km from the Fukushima power plant.

It is also officially the second worst nuclear disaster in history now (overtaking the Three Mile island partial meltdown in the US in the 70's) only behind Chernobyl.

@ zombie omie jay-thousands of people have been subjected to the radiation. The effect is that there is now a whole new generation of future japanese people that either 1) have cancer or 2) will have genetic defects.
People cant just say that this is a minor incident. This is major, perhaps not as major as the media had deemed it to be but it is still catastrophic.
The plant meltdown is euqally as significant as the other current events that Japan has experienced. The Japanese Government has pumped billions of dollars into their economy so that they can rebuild their economy to the level that it was at before the disasters in a short period of time.
As for Australia's contribution to the Japanese disaster, Australia was SLOW to respond, sending sniffdogs and Australian helpers much later than need be. The chinese however, were quick to respond in that they already had their people and the equipment on the plane and ready to leave china only a few hours after the incident occurred.
This is not just about Japan, this is about how countries place themselves in the global arena.....Australia Australia Australia, late again I see.
