Mmm, I guess for some subjects you can get away with not doing work in Preliminary. But don't you find that you have gaps in your knowledge?

Don't help them unless its beneficial to you.

If you're ranked one and blow your cohort out of the water, the ranking system will basically mean you're guaranteed to 'get your own mark' for the HSC external exams. The ranking system is fair. If your cohort sucks but you are brilliant, the ranking system won't punish you for having a shit cohort. There is one caveat however- if your cohort is shit, you're basically 'responsible for your own destiny' because if you're top ranked in the school but perform shit in the external (unlikely but may happen), you'll end up 'stealing' someone else's shitty external mark or getting your own shit mark. I hope you get what I mean.

Teaching others and getting study buddies are pretty awesome and motivating ways to learn, but try not to help your classmates to the detriment of yourself, or make them dependent on you to the extent that they start bugging you all the time.

@ Sinophile, well currently I am ranked 1st for 2 and 3 unit, however I feel sorry for our class. We don't exactly have that great of a teacher. Should I still help them? 4025808 told me to help them, but when it gets to the point of them overtaking you, stop.

Fair enough, I do find Maths easy and instead spend excessive time on English.
