I think it varies for each school. But I know you have to be invited, otherwise you can't do it.

Some schools do it by invitation, others do it by mark and rank and some don't have restrictions at all.

Comes down to whether you're capable.

It depends on your school. At mine pretty much anyone could do it (as long as you'd completed Preliminary 3U of course), it was just a matter of who wanted to.

Could anyone get into 3u if they wanted to? Or were they very selective to begin with?

We usually get about 15 people each year if the school is kind. Then, half the people drop it. I doubt it will be full next year, our cohorts aren't that brilliant at maths.

There's usually a class of 20-25 then it ends up being 18 people in Ext. 1. There's always 1 class for Ext. 1 and 1 class for Maths.

Wow I'm surprised at how massive the Ext 2 maths classes are at your school. My school has like a MAX of 3 people doing it a year. I dunno if many in my cohort will do Ext 2 maths, there's currently 11 in prelim 3u.

Half of my MX1 class does MX2.
There are usually 4 doing MX2 at this time but 1 or 2 drop after half yearlies. Fuckin' not me though.

Oh, sorry I was talking about ext 1. Ext. 2 classes are usually 5 at most.

Does MX2 cause your other subjects to deteriorate a little? Considering you're spending so much time on it and all, you'd think that your other subjects might suffer a little bit.
No. I spend next to no time on MX2. :p
Probably why I got 56%.
The guy that got 59% spends like all his time on it, but I don't think he's as smart as me.
The guy that got 85% has no life. Not even fb. But he still does well in all his subjects.
So either school or life deteriorate. Pick one.
My social life has actually gotten good. That's why I havent been on bos that much lately.

you have to be consistently getting over 90 in ext1 or else u'll fail ext2
This is a lie.
In 3U prelim, I got: 64%, 55%(half yearly :/), 81%, 79%
In 2U prelim, I got: 93%, 97%, 90%, 99%
So probably consistently over 95 in 2U.
The only reason I got 93 and 90 are because those were shitty little tests that barely counted and i got like 2-3 marks off full marks.
So maybe get 2-3 marks off full marks in 2U and you'll be set.

Unfortunately since the sticky threads still don't work, generally you should be averaging 70% or more to do MX2. Rough guide. It's different for everybody.

Pretty much anyone could. No one from my year was rejected, and a person from the 3rd Maths class in Year 10 did 3U at the start of Year 11 (they ended up dropping after the first term though).

Basically if you want to do it you can at my school. The teachers make recommendations to you, but ultimately you pretty much have the final say.

I like how your school rolls...
