Hi guys, I'm a bit new here and not too sure where to post this but hopefully here is okay.

Basically, over the last fortnight I completed my trial examinations, and I'm a bit worried concerning my conduct prior to my Modern History Examination. Before the exam, my teacher gave us a rough guide to what to study, (like, for the Core he recommended we know about WWI's impact on Womens lives, and Total War), my teacher did this for each section in the Trial. Everyone was told this information. However, as I was studying I did some practice papers (Independent and CSSA as well), and I noticed that one of the Independent Papers from a couple years ago was exactly what he had gone through for our trial.

Is it cheating, if I did that past paper and remembered the answers that I used and remembered what the marking guideline said and the sample answers from the Independent Paper? As when I sat the exam, it was the EXACT same paper?

I know I had the upper advantage in this exam, but I'm not sure if it's right to say to the extent that I did cheat, and I am a little concerned about it. I don't think they prepared for us to go through past papers, and didn't think about the implications of using an entire past paper as our trial.

So guys, did I cheat? I went into the exam knowing the answers for that past paper, which happened to be exactly my trial paper?

Umm, no that's not cheating. That's just lucky.

This reminds me of the time my biology teacher gave us an old half yearly paper for practice, and then gave us pretty much the exact same test for the actual half yearly. It's not cheating.

Not cheating (on your behalf) but the teacher is an idiot. The school should have purchased the current year's paper or written one.

As Omnipotence said - your teacher is a moron, however, that's not cheating at all.

If you feel bad for that - I worry about how you're gonna survive in this cut-throat world when it comes to getting a job.

Nope, that's not cheating. That is the teacher's fault. The same thing happened to me in my physics test - some of the questions were exactly the same as ones in a textbook I purchased. My teacher was obviously too lazy to write her own test.

Exact same thing happened to me in my Prelim yearly Entertainment exam. Except our teacher told us the actual papers to look in beforehand.

If your teacher told you the paper, he is the worse teacher in the world.

xD Well, she did tell us when the class wasn't really listening. And the results were interesting to say the least.

Similiar situation for my chemistry and physics trial examinations (which for me are week 4 next term). The teachers are actually preventing students from access of past trial papers from our school cause they actually write them up from those previous papers :D so now ive just gotta find a way to get my hands on them.

Our science head does this for any of the phys exams he writes for us... needless to say, half the grade knows his tactics and is well prepared for his questions. However, what he lacks in question making ability, he makes up for in making up RIDICULOUS marking criteria -_-

Teachers should all make their own exams to prevent students from hhaving an upper hand if it is an old test.

haha of course, but our science department is different. No matter how easy the question may seem, they WILL find a way to take marks off you...

That's because you go to a selective school and they need to differentiate the students. BOS hates tie-ing ranks so they tell your teachers to separate the same marks. And I guess for you guys they make a
RIDICULOUS marking criteria -_-
=P
