Should I sit the UMAT if even I have a tiny inkling to do medicine? (1 Viewer)

Hey guys,
I know it may be just a little early to even be thinking of this but hey, I read something tonight about the UMAT exams. In the past I have thought about potentially doing medicine, if I haven't completely ruled it out, should I sit the UMAT exam next year, just in case I decide to do it?

of course, if you meet the requirements and can sit it, you may as well, even if you dont do mediciene it looks great on a resume, and also it is always great to have the option

Personally its about this, do you want to have the option to go into mediciene?? if so sit it

hmm not sure whats wrong with ur keyboard, but it's spelt medicine.

As to O.P. If you have a certain interest, you should take the umat, and work hard as med is very competitive.

. I hope my friend fails because he thinks he'll be a dentist, when in fact he doesn't even study at all and gets low marks

usually around this time, people are not sure what they actually want to do in uni. If you think you want to do medicine then do UMAT. Throughout Prelim and HSC, i kept swapping preferences for my uni degree. From law to pharmacy to teaching to commerce to medicine back to law etc. The whole process got repeated. It wasn't until I finished my HSC that I knew I wanted to do Commerce/Law. Personally law has always been an interest of mine so thats why I chose it.

I originally wanted to do Medicine, however, I knew I wasnt prepared to travel interstate/oveseas/repeat attempts so I knew I was definately not passionate for medicine. I did do umat, was offered an interview but didnt get offered Med. Although if I did get offered, I dont think I would have taken it up simply because medicine is not my interest. Like I said, I wasnt sure if I wanted to Med, Law, Teaching etc but did umat to leave my options opened up.

Always leave your options open as I know a few friends, who didnt do STAT/UMAT/fill out some forms for some degrees etc and could not do the degree they initially wanted to.

False. You aren't born into any career path in particular - you work towards it.

I'm in the same boat, but if you do then you have to do med entry and then pay for the exam. It's not easy either. I have a sister who scored 98.4 on the HSC but still didn't do well in the UMAT.
