That sigma sign means the addition of terms from r = 1 all the way to n.
So basically, it could be rewritten as:


Should be easier now.

okay im not going to be able to post the solution whole, bcuz it will take way too long on latex.

but heres a summary:

prove for n = 1
assume true for n = k
prove true for n = k+1
for n = k+1, prove that LHS-RHS < or equal to 0:


the above was from the assumption for k
simplifying that you should get:

and you say thats less than zero since n was greater than 0 and hence k is greater than zero.

then you give ur conclusion, dont forget the conclusion its very important.
