Hey guys,
I'm moving to sydney next year to do grade 12 from melbourne.
I dunno anything about the HSC and stuffs, are they similar to VCE exams?
And is it even possible to join in year 12 without doing year 11 over there? :confused2:

Seriously, do year 11 in sydney.
HSC is 1000000000000000000000000000 times harder than VCE.
You'll struggle immensely if you do year 12 in sydney w/o doing year 11.
But i'm like in the half of year 11 ):

But can i even start year 12 without doing year 11 over there?
I would suggest you start studying the course now. Some concepts related to the HSC. Did you do Mathematics? Specialist?

Ah okay, I should try to do that :)
Nah, not doing specialist and don't plan to, but doing maths methods.
Thanks btw :)

Just do year 11, seriously, NSW is like the smartest state in Australia. The competition is damn fierce even if you don't go to a selective school. The education level is also wayyyyy higher than other states. It will be foolish if you jump into Year 12 in a new system.

Plus, we have syllabus and I think VCE they don't have a syllabus and glossary of key words to confer to?
Ah well I can't repeat year 11 as it's gonna take too long...planning to do medicine which takes 7 years already..
But if it's really gonna be difficult, then I might try to stay here and finish year 12 and then move..
Umm there's study design, but i'm not sure to whether it's the same D:
Thanks though :)

Well yeah it would be a pretty big shock, even though methods is mathematics apparent equivalent, they are very different. NSW=no maths cheatsheets.

What other VCE subjects do you do? There aren't even equivalents for some VCE subjects as they don't exist here.

I agree with the sentiment that the HSC is harder than the VCE(well not sentiment, it is), but not insanely as much as these guys think. And I'm pretty experienced with VCE vs HSC.

They are all lying. It's not that hard to catch up. I mean, most of the courses have a similar content.
Yes, there may be extra work, and yes, you will do different topics, but eh.
It's doable.

I don't think it's possible to jump straight into year 12 without doing year 11 here first, the syllabus here is different (from what I've seen) and I don't think you'll know what you're doing with most subjects once you get here.

Yes, hsc is harder than vce, but not insanely, just that the syllabus requires more.

you will, but pretty sure you'll have to go through year 11 again here.

They dont let you start off from year 12 if you haven't done the preliminary year 11 course.

Best to call up a couple of schools along with the boardofstudies and find out.

you couldn't transfer to any selective schools and most private schools, but your local school would probably accept you if you haven't done the prelim course, so yes it may be possible, but med entry is extremely competitive here, and although atar is only a part of what gets you in, the disadvantage to your atar that you might get by having to catch up, and the harder NSW system, may cost you just enough not to get into med

well Chem, Maths methods, bio and english aren't too vastly different (though I see you're doing yr 12 bio atm anyway).

Not sure what is equivalent human developemnt (maybe PDHPE) and no idea what the equivalent/if one exists for visual communication.

And to whoever said how you you know, trust me I have knowledge of the VCE.
