There is a trend in Hist Ext to focus on the 'popular' or 'main' historians in Section One. However, there are a number of lesser known historians whose methodologies and approach mirror, yet predate the historical discourse of Von Ranke etc, such as Arabic historian and philosopher Ibn Khaldun, amongst others.

Is there any reason why a student cannot refer to these oft-forgotten historians in Question One? Or must we only use the historians from the Book of Readings provided by BOS?

I'm sure markers would get tired of seeing Herodotus and Von Ranke's names on every paper.

You can use any historian you like but...

if you use a lesser known historian you will have to tell the marker everything about them as it is possible/probable that the markers won't know anything about them.
