Guys, i'm fucking doing my fucking speech tomorrow and I am scared shitless. Yes, I tend to swear quite a lot when anxious/scared.
Oh gawd.
I'm a really shy person irl and it's quite hard for me to show who I really am infront of people i'm not familiar with.
Wish me luck D:

You could talk about how you want to implement a recycling program or maybe get some artwork for the school to liven it up...

Prefects don't get to do speeches at my school :( (for getting elected). Just the name on the paper and a popularity vote :( I'd do a speech about bringing back better assemnly speeches and organizing a flash mob or a lip dub :p

Better yet, organise the lip dub or flash mob to be your actual speech.

That'd be cool Absolutezero, but we don't get speeches :( See all these ideas and all the popular kids get prefect and do nothing to make school better :(

^Congrats juicystar07 :) We don't find out school captains till December, so I suppose technically there's like 6 weeks where we are captainless :p

Same thing with my school but teachers also get a vote to balance it out to prevent a popularity contest from occurring.

Got school captain weooooooo :)
Congrats to you juicystar07! :)

Our prefects are being decided this week & then next week we determine captain & vice-captain.

If you end up swearing, it may work to your advantage (granted your teachers may not approve). Wouldn't recommend intentionally trying to do it however...

Captains elections for my school are coming up, will be interesting to see who gets it (I'm one at the moment so I have to organise it for the current Year 11's).

haha, if anything, i'll just freeze up and start stuttering/mumbling/choking on words rather than swear. :p

I thought I did really terribly in the speech, but I walked in on the teachers counting votes during lunch and I heard my name a few times- so i'm a little bit more hopeful

Speeches were very important in this case imo.
No one was that much more popular than the next person. I attempted funny, but I think people in my house either did not understand or were ignorant to my allusion, irony, sarcasm and irony that I embedded into my speech.

Meh, people vote for who they like the best. Knowing someone for 5+ years (assuming you've been there since the start) is much more insightful than a 2 minute speech. And lol that's my worst fear in speeches (i like to imagine there'll be crickets chirping in the background).

I moved to my current school in 2009. So... i've been here for about 2 years and the other applicants have been here since year 7 :haha:

eh. If I get it, that's cool. If I don't, that's cool too. I can just focus on my studies
Genuinely happy either way tbh

idk school captain speech was pretty easy for me, wrote it in about an hour. Speeches are pretty simple if you understand your audience's psychology (pretty important for a leadership role tbh, which is why I'd vote for someone who can stop a crowd from switching off and yawning over someone with a list of achievements that don't mean anything).

If there are so many of you worried about "idiots" getting in, that's clearly brought on by your own sense of inadequacy. Just because you perform well academically, doesn't mean you're more suited for a leadership role. You obviously know you're not a personable choice. You need to be an appealing person from the very first impression. People are more inclined to listen to you. If you're obviously well spoken and not utterly socially inept then people are more willing to pay attention to what you're saying.

I would vote for an "idiot" way before I would vote for a socially inept grade robot.
