what's the difference...will having 2 degrees make you more employable or is it just a waste of time?

Re: advice needed! mirin' my choices?

If you want to be employed as an accountant, double degrees don't mean much.
Just do commerce, double major in accounting and finance if you''re into financial services (most acountants i''ve talked to do this combination).
Then go get yourself an internship/vacation work at an accounting firm, preferably the big 4, during uni. If you're good you'll get a job offer when you graduate, or at least you have experience to differentiate yourself from the thousands of commece grads all going for the same job as you.
Pretty much sums up what I'd say. Key thing is if you want to get a job, you need to differentiate yourself. Whilst for some this may be a double degree, there are plenty of easier (and quicker) ways of doing this such as being involved in extra curricular activities either at uni/outside of uni, having a part time job, being involved in your community, etc...

Doing a double degree in Eco or Law is just one way of differentiating yourself but realistically, most of the big accounting firms don't require it and would usually look for someone who's an all-rounder and has the characteristics (beyond academics) which make them suitable for a job. Remember, your ATAR may be good now, but once you're in uni everyone is on a similar level.

Re: advice needed! mirin' my choices?

why is having extracurricular activities/part time job/community word/playing sports or music affect your employability?
shouldn't the people only be concerned on how educated you are and not what you do with the community?
does it actually really matter?

Yes it does matter, I wish someone/my school had told me how important it was to be involved in extra curricular things before it was too late...

You should take seremify's advice, if its accounting you're keen on, he knows better than anyone else on here how to get there.

And I'd say in all professions that are client based, including accounting and law, you need much more than academics to be successful, you need to be engaging and sociable. So if there were two graduates, one was very sociable, proven leadership skills and very involved in a life beyond study, the other was very very intelligent but quite introverted, the first one would get hired, despite how academically superior the second guy is.

no they havent.........

the principal only started saying 'get involved in extra curricular activity because its now going on your school report card', it woulda been more effective if she had said 'get involved in extra curricular activity because you will be more employable'

You seem set on picking the B Commerce, why won't you choose Macquarie? It clearly has the edge when it comes to choice of majors and the internship options.

It's never too late to become involved, but realistically, you shouldn't be doing it because it makes you more employable- you should be doing it because you genuinely want to do something whether it's charity work, sports teams, etc...

Either way, extra curricular only makes you more employable because it shows that you have softer skills beyond what can be measured with a number. And these skills are what is required in the real world.

Education is the great key to success. That's why some of us would dream of going to college to finish a certain degree for them to land on a good job. The majority of us want to choose something that we enjoy and are good at as our college major. The plan is, after all, to spend the next forty-some years in that field. Grads leaving college now are experiencing some of the worst unemployment figures ever. Unemployment is the highest it has been since the early part of the Great Recession. More than half of the grads who do find work have to accept it outside of their selected area. It may not seem fair, but some majors are much more employable than others. A potential student would be smart to look at the lists shown here, especially if employability is his or her main concern. While in school, financial problems led me to https://personalmoneynetwork.com/moneyblog/2011/12/14/employable-college-majors/ for little payday loans.

Re: advice needed! mirin' my choices?

Which is the best degree if you want to get into the field of accounting/makes you most employable/complements the commerce degree?

Your advice is greatly welcomed :p

BComm/BEco-UNSW
BComm/BEngi-UNSW
BComm/BArts-UNSW
BComm/BScience-UNSW
BComm/BScience(adv.maths)-UNSW
or just a simple BCommerce...

any suggestions? :uhoh:

NEED ADVICE IMMEDIATELY!

(Expecting ATAR-97)
Accounting?? Just do a single B Commerce degree. In fact, it would be even better if you got internships and cadetships since they will increase your employment prospects by a large amount.
