From my understanding of HSC physics, if a massive particle travels at the speed of light wouldn't it's mass be infinity and it's length be zero?

Re: Einstein's going down, physicists!

I believe that special relativity meant that a body of mass couldn't accelerate to the speed of light, it didn't mention anything about:
a). already going faster than the speed of light (tachyons);
b). anything about energy travelling the speed of light;
c). anything about neutrino's, period.

It would be nice if Einstein was wrong because that would mean endless possibilities and much more research (hopefully like that of the early portion of the 20th century) :D

Nah, they're too busy reporting about that team that won at the sport that they play.
who actually cares about this

other than like

40 people in the entire country that actually watch primetime news

its actually any mass that travels at the speed of light would have an infinite mass.

as v approaches c, m_o is arbitrary whilst m_v becomes infinite

Re: Einstein's going down, physicists!

But it's not travelling at c, it's travelling faster meaning the mass would be a complex number.
Edit: But since energy is directly related to mass and energy must be real numerator must also be imaginary to produce a net real number meaning rest mass must be imaginary.

yeah and you're one person

prime time news that broadcasts to the entirety of Sydney isn't going show news stories that only a handful of people will care about

They showed it on prime time news today.
