To be honest I don't think they will mark you down for a slight difference in appearance either way. With or without coloured pens but I could be wrong

Appearance is irrelevant in the HSC. As long as it's in a logical order.

Headings and titles you don't need a different colour for. Just underline in blue/black.

in english i highlight the name of text the first time i write it.

There's nothing worse than marking an entire essay in hot pink writing.

Remember that the BOS says you should write in blue or black pen.

However it you have someone you wish to make sure that the marker knows you have used/done something that you had to do then a different colour or highlighter is fine. Markers only complain if they can't read it so please do NOT use pencil or faint coloured pens - or the bright pink etc.

Stick to the blue and/black and just use the colour to make a point if necessary.

For underlining and headings its ok, so long as your primary colour is blue or black. For my 2U and legal exams, I used red pen to write the quesion numbers.

You can use either blue or black. But black is recommended because it can be scanned and read easier on screen. (Blue may be faint and may be unreadable in some areas), having saying that, they would have strong enough scanners to detect most blue imprints. So really it doesn't matter. Just black is safer.

if you want to indicate what your answer is, could you use red pen to go through the final answer of the curve and then indicate (answer) right next to it? (considering that you also did sketches on the same graph in pencil or black pen)

I think its ok. I did that on some questions for my 2 unit trial and final exam.

Remember though that if one is needed and you don't have it then you technically aren't allowed to borrow one from another student (although some supervisors might be more liberal in that regard).

I'm not sure about General....but I've never used any of these for 2U-4U Maths.
