Hilarious, same comment goes for you. And my HSC is next year so I don't know what tight schedule you're working with thinking that 30 minutes of my time is a complete waste, but I plan on taking it easy the next few months.
We are in the same year silly. I do my HSC in 2012

Ah well =/. By the way, do you do chem?
nup the subjects listed in the 'about me' are false because a teacher at my school who uses this forum was trying to uncover my identity (he is the teacher who does our timetables so he has a program to check who does what) and I dont go to james ruse either

You suggested before I am doing it this year and am wasting time.
Nope, no I didn't. I reread my comment and I don't see how you could have inferred that. Although, you said I was wasting my time when I could be studying for HSC when mine is next year. But wateva, couldn't care less. If it makes you feel better, I'm wasting my time, I'm going to fail HSC, you're going to get state ranks. There, now please stop arguing with me, I'm not even sure what you want me to argue about.

@michaeljennings: who cares, just wanted to know whether you did chem.

Ok dude. Somehow, during the last few posts, you weren't arguing - maybe it was evaluating, assessing or analysing or something beyond my english particle horizon.
Whatever makes you happy, buddy.
hahaha sure.

Guys, take a break from the computer and come back when you've calmed down.

Ok, I stopped.
I WANT to do some chemistry but I'm not sure whether to call the halon 1,1-dibromo-2-chloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane OR 2,2-dibromo-1-chloro-1,1,2-trifluoroethane. They both add up to 9 so I'm not sure what to call it.

I should probably ask in chem forum because it's just annoying me. Since (apparently) all the state rankers are coming from this forum, please help a non-naturally-gifted guy.

Yes, if it's a different topic you make a new thread for it as it gets annoying when things get off-topic.

Nah, in a top 10 school, the top 10-15 all know how to do the last questions, trust me, it's the silly mistakes that kill you. The difference between coming 1st and 5th in our school is whether you forgot to add the minus in front of the fraction or something, not because of being unable to do the last question. I don't believe in that natural gift crap, those who struggle and fail are those that didn't study the previous years and hold no basic skills in maths. If you are an above average student, if you study hard, you can easily enter the top 5. The top ten in the state are pretty much on equal levels, what differentiates them from the rest of the state is not only being smart but having consistency.
As someone who has been in the Top 10 at a Top 10 school (at a school that's likely second in the state in Maths), this is not at all true. Some kids are smarter than others. That's why they do better in 4U Maths. 2U, 3U - they're generally pretty much consistency, and trying to not make silly mistakes. However, in 4U, the top few ranks are based on who's actually smart, and who's actually not. I never lost any marks for silly mistakes in 4U Maths - but I never could come first. Why? Because there were always kids that were smarter than me.

Agreed! Sometimes you need that extra thing in addition to hard work - but not having a state ranking will not limit you from getting 99.95 (and at the end of the day a state ranking isn't too important)

Yep, agreed. In 4U, smartness>consistency in most cases. However in 2U/3U consistency is MUCH more important, esp. for state rank.

And why exactly is spiralflex going to get a state rank for maths? Getting a state rank for maths isn't even about how smart you are - by the end of the year everyone is just as smart as each other, it's about not making the silly mistakes in questions 1-5

Fair enough, but you seemed to imply earlier on that 4U Maths was not based on smarts. I think that's what powlmao was saying.

Nope, I never mentioned 4U. There's a reason why I said silly mistakes in 1-5 is because the questions in 6-7 in 3U are considerably harder. If I was going to talk about 4U I would have said 1-6. No one is as smart as each other in the end of the year in 4U. The statement is true for 2/3 unit based on experience myself, at least for my cohort. I'm sure this is the case for the rest of the top 10 schools =/.
