It depends on what it is. Most of the time, they probably couldn't.

However, your cutting yourself short for two reasons by making up a text. One, you're not gaining the skills in deconstructing and analysing a text. Secondly, the people who create texts (writers, directors etc.) are usually better than most high school students, and thus their use of language, effects etc. are better examples than your own.

I have a real related text, but it looks like it was made up. I made sure I referenced it correctly though. It's a website with an unsighted author. (It's my back up related).

But tbh, if they ask for 3 related texts in the exam it's much easier to make one up on the spot than to try and think of something you've seen and analyse it.
And if worse come to worse I guess you could do one of the unseen texts at the start of the paper. (I plan on using one as my 2nd RT)

wow.. if they ask for 3 related texts, how are you supposed to adapt your structure?

The advantage of it, in my opinion, is that if you make up your text, it's extremely easy to 'adapt' it to any question. Teachers do always say some RTs work better than others. If you make it up it can answer the question perfectly. Though I think it's difficult to come up with examples on the spot, you'd have to prepare some techniques beforehand e.g. metaphor otherwise you'd be hitting a wall each time in your essay you had to use the text. It's probably easier to just make up quotes for a text you have studied IF it doesn't fully answer the question, so you do memorise and reproduce some, but toss in a few made-up ones that really answer the quesiton.
