So guys you know how we have a choice

of the first syllabus section versus the second section.

(Persian Wars versus Delian League/Athenian empire transformation/Sparta-Athens relations)

Is it risky to study only one part?? I'm considering to only prepare for Persian Wars only since there is too much to memorise from all the sections o_O....

It is risky. If memory serves, when i did my HSC the questions were on Spartan/Athenian relations and on the emergence of the Athenian Empire. Study the Persian Wars and Delian League to Athenian Empire (they feed into each other anyway), then you'll be covered.

What about the Athen-Spartan relationships?? and Pelopenessian League part?? is it necessary?

Funny that this should arise. I was about to post something very similar.

It appears that since 08' we have been given a 'Delian League/Athenian Empire' Question, but there was a bit of a doozy in 07. I'm hoping, practically praying that there is a 'Progression' of the Wars > League > Empire question... Otherwise I'm pretty much fucked. Haha.

Same here. I'm hoping that they will ask a question along the lines of explain the development from the Delian League into Athenian Empire. They haven't asked this question since 2005 basing off from past papers so there's a possible chance. An essay question on the roles of Aristides and Cimon might come up as well like in the trials.

nah i think Cimon and Aristides was too easy so won't reappear in the HSC. i nailed this question!!

What else is a possibility. I would love the Athenian empire question also!

There are plenty of other role and contribution chaps, Themistocles, Miltiades, Eurybides, Pausanius, Leonidas. <--Could be a question on a couple of these?

Themistocles in particular has a lot on him.

There's the standard why did the Greeks win? question and all its variations/ sub reasons

You have the origins/activities/organization of the Delian League questions

There's the movement from League to Empire questions

Then the impact on Athens/Sparta/ relations with Greek states during this period questions

Variations on all these questions is really whats popped up in all the past Ancient Exams.

If it's anything like the trials it'll be a piece of cake.

If I was to focus on the Delian League 'section', would i be doing draft questions for each point?

I'm confused. The questions were:

Question 38 — Option H – Greece: The Greek world 500–440 BC (25 marks)
(a) Why did the Greeks win the Persian Wars of 480–479 BC?
OR
(b) Account for the development of the Athenian empire to 440 BC.

Ugh, last year got the best questions ever! Meaning they will now have to make ours annoyingly hard and obscure!

I'm really confused as to what i should be doing. I'm going to focus on the Delian League section - should i be doing essay plans for each point or should i just be revising my notes and quotes, with no structure in mind?

there tend to be five questions that get cycled through a lot

1 explain/assess the contribution of themistocles (very likely)
2 explain the reasons for greeks victory in the second persian war (this was last year, dont bet on it)
3 explain the changing relations of athens and its allies (I think this one is likely to come up)
4 explain the roles/contribution of cimon and aristides (in two years ago, unlikely)
5 explain the transition from delian league to athenian empire (also likely)

These are the questions I have prepared and memorised essays for, I would also recomend learning a dot point summary of democratic developments.

I know squat didly about the impact on sparta and the pelp league though, so if that comes up I'll be royally screwed over.

I doubt they'll ask about Themistocles since it already came up in 2009.

As for the Persian Wars, they might ask about the significance of naval battles or contributions of Miltiades and Leonidas.

If you know these two thoroughly enough, you should be able to deal with almost anything they throw at you.
