Haha no way! Many people Bio is their sole science and they do fabulously. I would say all the sciences are pretty separate that you don't really get advantage from doing multiple ones, except for experiment procedure etc. being drilled into you more.

If you are looking for a job, then you would need knowledge and skill in both subjects. For hsc, it really does not matter at all.

In my opinion it DOES help with some specfic topics in understanding the concepts, but does not really contribute to the marks. For example, in the reabsorbtion of salts in the nephron, I was more easily able to recognise and remember the salts as this is quite basic knowledge in chemistry. Also, I guess in the HSC today it helped me in the experimental questions such as identifying controls, variables, etc. and I was able to recognise the Data Logger as we have used it in chemistry. So it helped me pick up 3 or 4 marks, no biggie.

If you know absolutely nothing about chemistry, like you don't even know what CO2 stands for, then yes, you are going to have major trouble in biology. This would only apply if you skipped all your science classes in yr 7-10.

I didn't pick chem but did bio. I failed chem in year 10 - got around 50s-60 percent in every chem test. BUT i still had basic knowledge about some chemical formulas. I knew that HCI stood for Hydrochloric acid and i knew that NaCI stood for sodium chloride. Yet, even such a basic understanding of chemistry, I'm top 3 in biology in my school; scoring an average of 75-86%in my tests. I also found the HSC test this year quite easy.

So my point is, you only need elementary knowledge of chemistry to suceed in bio. So go for it!

From the top of my head. Only chem in bio you've dealt with so far is for photosynthesis and respiration. That is all...
