Right now, this shitty DELL computer that has 2 gb Ram, 256 mb graphics card, normal fan motherboard etc, 1.36TB hard drive.
Planning on scrapping it and getting new RAM, graphics card, fans and power source whilst spending at most $500 all up.
Don't really care about hard drive space since it's just for gaming.

1.36tb is more than enough for gaming

Just get a whole new computer system, it'll cost you 800-1000 and it'll last you 2-3 yrs too (maybe more depends)

a good psu costs aruond $120-150 so maybe.

but once you include the cpu and mb etc it's gonna add up

yeah...you are DEFINITELY going to need much more than $500 for anything decent... a decent cpu alone will be about half of that already...

If your getting a gaming PC, dont skimp, seriously spend an extra 400 bucks and WILL be worth it, get an SSD, a good motherboard and a solid HDD (hitatchi/seagate NOT WD). 8GB Ram too, again dont get crappy Corsair Value Select stuff, get decent speed ram. The hardware will become obsolete less quickly, higher performance and will remain faster in the long run.

Seagate has a pretty bad reputation, 8GB ram isn't required... all ram is mostly the same, it doesn't really matter on the brand that much, Corsair/Kingston is ok if you're saving money.

I work in a computer shop, ~70% of all hard drives that fail are WD, seagate was bad, but have recently improved.
And yea RAM basicaly is the same, but I mean if your looking for a high performance gaming machine then high-speed is probably better.

Anyway rough estimate on some priving if you want it one sometihng we just built:
i7 2600K, Gigabyte UD7 mobo, SLI 560Ti's, 16gb RAM, 120gb SSD, 2tb hdd, Antec DF85 Case, 1000w PS for about $2600
