Overloading for a subject outside one's program (1 Viewer)

Hey guys

I was wondering what happens if you take subjects outside of your degree. So I do a combined law degree at UNSW so we're not required to take any gen eds, but say I enrolled into one because the subject was something that interested me (and assuming I overloaded this), would any complications arise?

Also, would this count to my WAM?

also, what if the subject I chose to do was a language? a language can be studied as a minor or major under the commerce degree, so would it still be full fee?

If it is studied as part of your degree it's not 'outside one's program' and thus fees would be commonwealth supported.

As for WAM, there's actually no single definition of WAM. It depends on the purpose and resolutions of the relevant uni/faculty that uses it.

If the course is going to be part of the major/minor then it will count towards your GPA/WAM.

but the language subject would be outside of my major, because my single major would be finance. Don't worry, ill call student services and ask them, then post what they say. I'm pretty sure any subject you take, regardless of it being within degree requirements, count towards one's wam.

I think it'll count for WAM. I'm pretty sure UNSW's WAM counts everything.
It's pretty hard to tell if something's is part of someones degree, maybe not in your case, but say if i was doing a particular degree that has no electives, but 2 gen eds. and what would happen if I take 3 gen eds one semester? Of course they'll count all 3 to your WAM, you'll just end up taking more than the minimum UOC required to graduate for your degree.
If you're taking it as Non-award study, this might be a different story, but if its not commonwealth supported, then you should just take it normally and overload.

@aquawhite UNSW takes all courses to count for WAM, whether or not its part of your major/minor.
