Hi all, I have been trying to find the first year (level 100) subjects you're required to do at Macquarie but so far no luck.

I plan to major in geology, and the only subjects listed in the handbook are GEOS125 or GEOS126, but nothing else. Does this mean I am basically free to choose any other 7 units I want to at a 100 level?

I'm a little surprised that your usual chemistry or stats units aren't mentioned...

If someone could help me out here it would be appreciated :)

[I'm not a science student so the info below is not certain, it's only a starting point for you]

I presume you are doing a Bachelor of Science? The relevant page is here: http://www.courses.mq.edu.au/2012/Undergraduate/Degree/Bachelor+of+Science#WhatYouWillStudy - the program is 68 credit points and it specifies that 42 needs to be designated as science, so you can then subtract the numbers (also keep in mind that you need to do a people and planet unit as well). The two 100 level units are for the Geology major only, did you want to do another major/minor? You can also click the individual units for the geology major to see what areas are relevant: http://www.courses.mq.edu.au/2012/Undergraduate/Major/Geology#WhatYouWillStudy (click on the 200 and 300 level units to see what other units are recommended/pre-requisites).

If you are starting semester 1 next year, you will be given academic advice during enrolment to help you pick your units as well. You can find a list of units offered by the Faculty of Science here: http://www.handbook.mq.edu.au/2011/Units/UGByFaculty/Faculty+of+Science
