Of course there are the maths geniuses who can do that - but most people can't do that.

You would have too be a genius if he got a mark of 85+ especially in uni, since thats like equivalent to an Atar of 99.95

Would anyone mind sticking this thread? It seems too be getting alot of views? haha

Nah, that's not true. 85 onwards=HD but it's much easier to get an 85 than to get 99.95 ATAR (and 99.95 comes from numerous subjects, not just one and even if we are talking about 85 average at uni, 99.95 ATAR is still harder to get).

General Rules to swear by ;
# Don't cram! Make sure you attend all lectures at least if you're not bothered to make notes for studying.
# The last lecture for every unit always give you hints to what is in the exam and most of the time tell you what pages to focus on.
# Some tutorials/practicals have attendance requirements (especially for Commerce and some Science units) so please make sure you attend them.
# If you're going to do "group work" ~ please make sure you have group members who actually contribute efforts.
# Universities offer a student-peer assistance program ~ for UWS and some others it is called PASS ; they help out a lot with homework and assessments and these sessions are run by students who gained a D-HD average in the unit.
# When making notes from the textbook refer back to your lecture notes.
# It is possible to get HD in your assessments and your exams. However, to get a HD overall in the unit you will need D-HD averages in your assessments and then a D in your final examination.
# Do not just study ~ make sure you understand! There are online discussion forums on your student university website which you can discuss certain aspects on a topic about to your peers.
# Learn from your mistakes and have fun! University is not all about getting that degree and doing well academically ~ make sure you're actively participating socially with your peers - you can learn a lot from them and their experiences. ^___^

yeah, i'd say 85 average is approx 99.00 give or take. but then again, for uni you're only doing one or a few subject areas. e.g. one person could be really good at chemistry for example, and maybe say they got 97 for the HSC in chem and get a 85+ average in uni, but only got a 95 ATAR, because of their other subjects.

Not true. One of my friends does nothing all semester. Then gets 85+ as his final mark (usually around 87-90).

No, your friend doesn't tell you that he works during the semester, trust me he did his homework, and listened in lectures.

Some units have online lectures and online student-peer assistance classes. Others you're forced to go and endure ~ but all worth in the end because you end up picking up on certain topics you were only half listening to in the lecture while doing an exam.

what about engineering students?

From what I hear from a friend of a friend doing Electrical Engineering and her boyfriend doing Computer Software... Engineering theory units requires the necessary cramming but the ones involving maths and calculations are ones you need to look over at least once every week. All the best.

True! Some group members you just want to $%^@ but if you have good ones then your life is easier.
