just wondering, how often do people accepted into usyd courses (specifically engineering) via flexible entry. I know it says to apply if you're within 5 points of your desired course, but realistically what are the chances? I am within 3 points of my desired course. Also do they tell you prior to main round offers if you're application for flexible entry was successful or do you just find out via whether you get an offer or not. Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

It all works on a case by case basis. Think of it more like a job application process where you have to also disclose extracurricular activities and anything which may be applicable to the field you are interested in.

The Engineering faculty have a link on their webpage which goes into this process more in-depth.

As answered in the USYD sub-forum (may be of some interest to others here as well:

I too would like to know the answer to this. I would love to do the flexible CST/IT/ENG degree which requires 89.05, but the atar calc say my estimate is 83.30. Do they have some leeway, or is it strictly 5 marks?

1) Let's wait until the ATAR comes out before coming to any conclusions.

2) I would be inclined to say if you did not fall within this band, you may not be successful but give the faculty a ring anyway. They may give you some leeway in some circumstances.
