Commerce @ Macq - How can I PREPARE for this course? (1 Viewer)

I'm thinking of doing BCommence - professional accounting. What is the difference between Bcommence and Prof accounting?
I didn't do math as well.. so does it mean i will stuggle? do i need to take a bridging course?

Please refer to my post just above yours. If you choose the B Commerce, what are you planning on majoring in? Are you planning on becoming an accountant after your degree?

Accounting math isn't really hard, per se, it's more the theory and process behind it that is the challenge. Macquarie has courses to help you as well as a numeracy centre dedicated to helping students with their maths.

I was wondering what are the tutorials like at Macquarie uni? what do
you do in tutorials? like group work, do a presentation.. does the tutor pick on you to take part of
a discussion? Is there also alot of assignments or just exams?
because i'm doing Accounting Diploma at tafe right now and
don't know if i should continue to do the Advance Diploma or go to uni..

For accounting, definitely try and get into uni. Your career prospects will grew enormously and so will your earning potential.

All the activities you listed (group work, presentations) happen pretty frequently. Some tutorials comprise of the class answer questions and sharing answers etc... It just depends on the way the unit is run.

+1 If possible, definitely try to go to uni.

It depends on the tutor, but it is generally rare for a tutor in accounting to pick on anyone to answer a question - some will with ask the class in general. Tutorials can be a mixture of discussion, listening to presentations, a chance to ask question/clarifying particular areas, etc.

There is a mix of smaller tests, assessments, presentations and a final exam.

Which stat unit? Microeconomics isn't too bad, it's mainly graphs and basic maths with a bit of theory.

oh that's a relief! by the way atlas, do you still have powerpoints and lecture notes from stat or micro? it'd be nice to see what to prepare for before uni

STAT170 shouldn't be too difficult if you attend the lectures/practicals etc, and if you need help, go to the numeracy centre. STAT170's assessment structure is designed to let students get the highest mark possible.

For STAT170 - the most useful resource will be the course notes which change, they are available from the course notes shop and older versions are available in the library. (tip: hold out from getting the textbook, most students never touch the textbook since it isn't really required)

I didn't do micro so I don't have any notes, but you can find all past unit outlines online - these will tell you which topics are covered and the assessment structure.

STAT170: not a math person but I found the unit manageable, there isn't a lot of technical mathematics or calculation. It's more statistics, if I had to pick the hardest part, it would be working with Excel - not because it was hard since the instructions in the notes guide you through everything step by step, but it wasn't very interesting since I didn't have an interest in statistics.

Numeracy Centre: they will have staff available at all hours that can help you with most units broadly as well as specific staff that are rostered on for certain times that specialise in certain units. STAT170 is a core subject so most, if not all staff should be able to help you with the unit. The timetable for staff times is available on the noticeboard outside the numeracy centre.

The course notes shop is just below the Co-op bookshop (just go down the stairs near the Co-op bookshop) - there will be a list of all the available course notes on the front door order alphabetically based on the unit code. If you can't find it, you can just ask someone around or just ask at the co-op - it's in a hard to find spot so lots of students go in to ask where they can get course notes).
