If P= cosx/2 and q= sin^3x, find sin^2x+ cos^2x in terms of p and q.

Lots of ambiguity there.

$\cos \frac{x}{2}$ or $\frac{\cos x}{2}$ ?

$2p=\cos x$

$4p^2=\cos^2 x$

We still need to eliminate $\sin^2 x$

We are given, $q=\sin^3 x$

$\sin x=q^{\frac{1}{3}}$

$\therefore \sin^2 x = q^{\frac{2}{3}}$

Now,

$\sin^2 x+\cos^2 x= q^{\frac{2}{3}}+4p^2$

Also I applaud you for doing SBHS papers.
