LAW471- commercial law-

Difficulty- not very hard

Pros- Shayne teaches it, black letter, good assessments.

Cons- none.

Marks range- easier than most to get a distinction.

I've been wanting to start a thread like this. This should be stickied or something, we can really really build on it...

It would be even better if people could actively contribute to it by posting past exams or unit outlines to let future students know what they're up for. It really sucks that the handbook doesn't give you an assessment structure. Pretty much every other university has a breakdown for each subject of how the assignments will be apportioned and what is required.

PS: Why no 500 levels?

I agree with you, I think a dedicated thread would be extremely valuable.

Trying to establish whether a "subject review" sub forum is feasible with the other mods at the moment. If not, the plan is to get a dedicated thread for each faculty up and happening.

Either way, something should hopefully be done soon.

Sounds good Azure. I will definitely contribute to it (whatever "it" ends up being)... I'll write reviews on all the law units i've done so far and even some arts ones too if there's a demand (I did sociology - not sure if thats popular). I'll attach Tutorial questions + unit guides + any past exams I have.

Here's a quick review of 479/473

LAW479 - IT LAW & LAW473 - Intellectual Property
Assessment: 20% participation | 15% case note | 5% MC Quiz | 60% Take Home
Note: These two units are very similar. Niloufer ran both last year and the assessment structure was exactly the same. There's also a sizeable amount of overlap between the two.

Pros: Niloufer is super organised and generally has all the lecture slides up at the start of semester. The lecture notes are thorough - I ended up skipping the textbook readings more often than not. You should easily be able to get credit without much effort unless you bomb the Take-Home exam (which I unfortunately did for IT)

Cons: I personally found some of the topics to be boring and dull. I somewhat regretted taking Intellectual Property because a lot of it felt like a repetition of IT. Other than that, nothing.
