Yeah, it's a weird question anyway.
Someone told me whoever attains first place in the first assessment task retains that rank throughout regardless of their marks and despite others attaining a first place as well!!
Lies... -.-
Actually, I'm paranoid because I have been consistently coming first for Advanced and Extension English, so just thinking what if I rank 2nd in one of the assessments and then first again consistently, attainging the first overall? :)

Hope that's a bit clearer:)
Lol. I don't know how that guy would ever think that.

And chill :p

Rank is important for internal assessments, but you want your entire cohort to do well in externals.

Haha! Thanks guys:):) Just a bit paranoid today! .... So, I can still retain my first place despite ranking 2nd in one assessment task as the final percentage ultimately formulates the ranks! (Yaylol)

Hmm, yeah thats true! apparently everyone in the cohort has to do well.. :)

You should have been given your assessment schedule by now for all your subjects. That schedule would tell you what the percentage is for each task. When all the tasks are completed what happens is the your assessment marks are converted to a mark out of the percentage e.g. a mark of 60/70 for assessment task 1 worth 15% would be converted from 60/70 to 12.85/15. This happens for all the tasks and then they are added together. That will give the teacher a percentage. Based on those percentages the school will determine your ranks and the gaps.

Coming first on the first task will not mean that you come first at the end (in fact I have had a situation where the student who came 18/18 on the first task ended up coming first at the end by quite a margin actually).

Plan B: Forget the rest, come 1st internally every sub and blitz the HSC with no regard for the rest of your cohort chyyyeaah. Nothing like getting your assessment and HSC mark being the same and knowing it was all on you :)

Yes your atar can be higher, but it would be difficult (but not unusual) for your HSC mark to be higher than them. For example I was ranked in the bottom half of my cohort for every subject I did, without fail. 6/8 MX1, 3/4 MX2, 17/31 EngAdv, 6/11 Geog and 4/6 Physics, but then I still managed to get one of the higher atars in my cohort. I think I ended up getting the 8th highest atar or something, which you would not have necessarily guessed from the ranks.

What if there are only like 3 people in your class and you come 1st, do you get affected?

Also if you are the only person to do a subject, say ex2 math, then your internal mark will be your external mark. As you are 'first', it doesn't matter how you go in assessments as long as you make a 'serious' attempt. Then it all matters how you go in the exam, which will determine everything.
