if i get around 70% for my first maths extension 1 assessment can i get a band 6 still? what are the chances knowing that i just bombed out on that assessment?

Of course you can.

Just remember that 50% of your mark is going to originate from the external HSC exam so when you reflect on it, you will realise that it won't take up a major portion of your overall mark (obviously provided that the weighting isn't extremely high).

Depends on the difficulty of the paper and what others in the class attained. It's early days - so a B6 in 3U is possible.
