Hey, i'm new and it seems that many are posting queries regarding the HSC. I have some.

I attend a school that placed in the 80s last year. I am in the top 5 for my HSC cohort as many have decided to elect the IB. I have ardent aspirations of achieving higher than 99 and attending Sydney for Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Media and Communications. My work ethic is very good.

Subjects:
Advanced English
Extension English (will do ext. 2 next year)
Legal Studies
Society and Culture (i've heard the scaling stigma)
Modern History
Drama
Japanese (ext.1 next year)

I will definitely need to drop some units for next year. Recommendations would be appreciated. Taking this all into account, can someone advise me on what i'd have have to place in my year in each subjects for internals and externals to receive my desired ATAR. Also, may you give suggestions on preparation for the HSC year. I understand that for fruition, i must be greatly diligent. Just seeking guidance.

Thankyou, Nick

Ok, thanks. Do you know of where I can get a list of course admission marks from last year. 99.70 is attainable, but i'd like to see other unis.:tongue2:

Are you looking for the UAC Cut-offs? That's the latest one. Good luck with your studies!

I would say for your units, you would need to be coming first or second in everything to get 99.70. When it comes to dropping, drop the subjects you are weakest in and like the least.

Drop the subject that you perform worst in, with a slight consideration for scaling. You seem keen for EE2, scales well and some you're good to want to do it :) Also Jap Ext scales awesome too.

I was in a similar position to you. I went to a school ranked in the 60s-70s and I got into Law at USyd by doing mainly HSIE subjects.

I did: Ancient, Legal, SOR I, Maths Ext 1, English Ext I.

Don't worry about scaling. Just do your best in the subjects! Aim to get the highest ATAR you can achieve. But even if you fall short, honestly, don't worry about it. If you achieve an ATAR high enough to study Media and Communications, then just do that and transfer into Law after a year, or just do the JD. There's plenty of avenues to study law!
