split or slip ?
Commutators are split ring, I'm quite sure there's no "slip ring commutator". A commutator is made by cutting some sort of ring into segments and connecting each segment pair to a coil - one coil per segment pair.

Slip ring commutators are used in AC generators to maintain a constant connection between the rotating coil and the external circuit.

I thought they were just called 'slip rings'

Hmm can i use a can plastic as a commutator? or I need to buy a copper ring?
Exactly how are you constructing your motor? Are you following an online guide?

You certainly cannot use plastic as it needs to be a conductor.

What is the marking based on? How well your motor functions...?

If carbon brushes are unavailable, you can use paperclip or thick metal wire bent partially around your commutator. Anything that conducts electricity and will allow the commutator to rotate while maintaining electrical contact will be fine.
