Start with the imdb top 250. It's not perfect, but it's a good start for great film across a broad variety of genres.

THanks :)

Never been too picky with genres, i even enjoy romantic films etc.

I have foxtel on-demand, so yay for instant movies.

I can assure, there are a lot more bizarre and harder-to-get-into genres than Romance.

I really liked 1408. It's a horror/suspense/thriller.

I also really liked Titanic and Just Like Heaven (romance, comedy, melodrama).

Do you watch foreign films?

I am assuming you mean like Japanese foreign. (Obviously something not English or from Western Culture)

Not particularly. I usually don't like films in other languages

The German's are probably the best at foreign films, along with the Italians and the French.

My favourite thrillers/suspense are:
- Ax'Em (aka. The Weekend It Lives)
- Manos: The Hands of Fate
- Dead at the Box Office
- Birdemic: Shock and Terror

I would highly recommend you to watch these films, it changed my life after I did

I would also recommend them, but for the complete opposite reasons to what you're implying.
