Quick question on Creative writing! (english) (1 Viewer)

For English standard/advanced Paper 1 Section II creative writing.. do they always show an image and tell you to base it off that?

Because I want to write one before hand and memorize it so its easier on the day.

It could be based off anything, a picture, a quote, an idea. Or they could give you a sentence you have to used, or an opening you have to start from.

It could be anything. The trick is to come up with a story idea that can be adapted to a few different ideas if need be.

Well I was thinking of the following:

- African-American in the mid 20th century living in a commonly white area of the US, moving to NYC and joining/leading the Black Panthers for equal rights. Gets shot by a white man and dies.
- A 20 year old finds living at home suddenly finds out hes adopted, instantly feels not belonging to anyone or anything and pursues his real parents to fill the void in his life.
- An organ transplanted into another person and it gets rejected by the new body.
- Innocent bystander goes to jail for a crime he didnt commit, doesnt belong in the jail legally, physically or mentally.
- Vietnam War veteran not fitting into scoiety (post-traumatic stress). Always gets reminded of war by the most simplest things eg. News helicopters, planes, bells, horns etc.

Which do you think is the best to adapt to anything?

1. All right, you should do some research into it if you choose to use it

2. Fairly cliche

3. Writing from the perspective of an object is not recommended. If you're not doing it from that perspective, the idea doesn't quite work

4. Could work effectively.

5. Fairly cliche, and not something you probably have much experience with.


Either 1 or 4 would be my picks.

Ill probably go with number 1 since I have a interest in Malcolm X, MLK etc

But I have to admit my story will be loosely based on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huey_P._Newton

You can base stories on people, that's fine.

A side question here.

Do markers mark you based on your ability to write about that stimulus? i.e. the stimulus is an image of a burger, would that burger have to play a crucial role in the creative story? or would it be sufficient enough to only mention it a few times, with the burger having a minimal bearing on the story?

It's mostly just there to give you ideas, however, it does need to be included in the story. It doesn't need to play a critical role in it though. So you could have the character being eating a burger as they make their next plan, or they could run past a burger restaurant for example.
