Who is sitting the AMC 2012? What do you all think of this competition? Hard, easy, so-so?

Yeah I'm doing it- its right after my 4U trial so I'll be in the maths zone haha.

Umm, I generally think its pretty good- some of the questions are very interesting and the last five are always hard to do in the time constraints but its a decent test all up.

to distinguish olympiad-level studdents from commoners you need killers

Those maths exams are bloody impossible!! Does anyone ever get full marks? I can answer like the first three and that's it :/

The best was one year when I guessed Q27 (like didn't even narrow it down) and I got it right lol

Probs not. I know in Yr 8, I got like 89/135 and that was about 2 marks of a prize which is top 0.3% so I doubt people get full. Though there's one guy in our year that almost consistently gets prizes so some people are actually that good.

Because it's seriously just natural ability - the last 5 are generally way too hard.

Yeah I think so- he's legit a freak at these comps.

I got 96/135 in year 8 and didn't get a prize (must of just missed out).

People do get 135/135 though, it's on the AMT website iirc.

You'd have more of a chance actually working the asnwer out than guessing it right imo.

Lol this exam is compulsory at our school however we all defied the rules and used the excuse of "studying for trials" to get out of it. Hopefully someone at school can give me their paper if not I have evil plans up my sleeve.
