So I was looking at some courses on the UAC undergrad list and I noticed a new had "nc" in the ATAR cut off.

So apparently "nc" stands for "new course" but my question is this:

Does this mean there isnt a cut off and everyone is eligible?

Have a look here: http://www4.uac.edu.au/wap/ug13.aspx?keywords=&method=all&course_code=&university=&uais=nc+nc
The ATAR cut-off you see quoted there was the one required last year for entry. They reference the cut-off to ensure that students don't fill up their applications with courses they have no shot of getting direct entry into.

So no, it isn't a free pass.

Generally the ATAR need will be determined by the Uni.

I.e A new course in Sydney will probably have a higher ATAR needed than UWS.

That being said it depends on the course.

Look at similar course in the same uni and that will be an indicator of what ATAR you need

Do some research on the uni pages for that degree - usually they'll have information. E.g. Actuarial @ UNSW (new course) is 98, no HSC plus.

It is rumoured to be 98, simple supply and demand model.

Supply and demand.

If the course has 100 places, and 500 people apply, the atar cut off becomes whatever the 100th persons is.

So if 100 has an atar of 94, its 94.

NC seem to be rather unpredictable.

Last year i had 2 friends apply for different NC. 1 had an estimate of 90 and the other was 85.

Both ended up bending 95 cut off or something completely different
