You're underestimating the HSC - the HSC is probably the most difficult exam that you'll face during the two years. I find it irrelevant that "your cohort is an exception" and it won't move from school rank 300 to 50 - not a chance.

At best, I'd say rank 150 and you're still looking at 85. Even if you smash HSC, you'll realistically max out at ~95.

i dont think so...i have faced way harder tests than hsc and many teachers say trials are more difficult than hsc?

Your cohort, and im guessing school, is really small so a big jump in rankings is possible but i really doubt it'd be huge. To be honest being ranked dead last in a subject is NEVER a good sign, but luckily you are only actually last in one subject. Not easy to estimate with small cohort and lower ranks but i will say it depends largely on your externals. What course do you want to do?

It's easy for teachers and others to say trials are more difficult than the HSC, but when you are there sitting the exam it doesn't neccesarily feel that way. I'm the kind of person doesn't really get affected by exam pressure and stuff much but I remember walking out of economics last year and talking to friends and we all thought it was harder than the 2010 exam, yet when i got home and looked on BoS there were ex students insisting the 2011 exam was easy compared to 2010.

electrical eng is gay man
Don't diss Electrical Engineering =P. It's the hardest (mainstream) engineering degree to do and also on average the highest paying, stable field of engineering.

My statement is probably also dependent on the school but I haven't found many exams that are much beyond HSC exam level. Most trials I find are not anymore difficult than the HSC either.
