Hi everyone just curious what kind of a raw mark you need to achieve a band 6 in chem??

My internal mark at the moment is 85 % and I'm ranked 1st

And remember, the benchmark changes every year according to the difficulty of the paper. So I wouldn't be really that happy about it lol.

Ah, I heard they mark trials much harder to get you studying for HSC.

The raw mark for 90 is usually around the low 70's, but it can vary fro year to year.

In terms of marking, trial marking can vary quite a bit from HSC marking. Its not as much of an issue for the sciences and especially maths, but from my understanding there are some extended responses with chemistry (i.e. Evaluate the impact that X has on society). With a question like this, the answers arent black and white and some non-HSC markers may not know how to properly mark those questions, which leads to discrepencies. But I would say that if the teacher marking your trials marks the HSC, yo can be pretty confident that the marking is to a HSC standard

Thanks. My teacher is a HSC marker and he said the trial was marked very very harshly and even said that HSC markers aren't that harsh, they look for ways to give you marks rather than take marks away from you. I hope this is true.

Quite the opposite.

My school gets 1-2 (even 3) state ranks in Chem every year, with 30-ish B6's, and the top mark in our Chem trial was only 92/100, with only 5 students getting >90. So the marking in HSC is like that.

Fucking hell, do not get me started.

My teacher used to give me 4/7 for the extended ones just because he "doesn't like giving full marks for those" that built up at the end of the year and FUCKED my internal. Ugh.)

he's lying to you

My teacher was a HSC marker and said the same. Lol

Show me an exam that you did, give me that marking scheme and I'll mark it for you.
Better yet give it to me!

The top chem practice trial I marked this year got 18/75 (there was no option).
