One of my cousins done the umat this year. Just wondering what is the minimum mark / percentile do you need to be eligible to do a med course?
Depends on:

1. Which uni
2. Where they live (for UWS)
3. ATAR
4. Interviewing ability

I guess averaging decent marks can sometimes be better than doing very well at a few (as you did in s1) im sure you have a chance at UNSW second round with a good ATAR?
yeah, but I also did SHIT in section two. If I got ~55 my overall would've been ~63 and percentile in the 90s easy.

Nah, I did the HSC last year and got ~95 (mostly because I lost drive after getting shit UMAT results).

So only UWS this year (the whole reason I did well in section one was so I could get into UNCLE -_-).

Yes confidence and experience was the key to success in that exam. I see many people improving when they did it second time round, like yourself.

The girl was probably stressed out too much. I saw people before outside reading notes/attempting questions before the exam. I deemed those people screwed up, cos it shows a lack of confidence and the girl I know was one of these people lol. Better luck next time i guess?
Yeah, but also, I did worse in section two, and my friend got a percentile worse (and a lot worse marks in section one, so it just depends).

Yeah, that was me last year, (and this year I did some section two questions at maccas beforehand lol) but I guess they can always try again, and not let it get them down so they can get dat ATAR.

Depends on the UNI and your ATAR, its not black and white. Someone posted this a while ago for UNI's in NSW.

UWS:

UMAT: For 2011, you needed a weighted score of at least 149 for a GWS student. For a non-GWS student, you need a weighted score of ~156. A weighted score is Section 1 + Section 2 + (0.5 x Section 3).

ATAR: 95.50+ for Non-GWS (Greater Western Sydney) student OR 93.50+ for a GWS student. This is a cut-off that you need to pass. No difference between a 96 and 99.95 ATAR for UWS. If you want to know if you are in GWS, go here:http://www.uws.edu.au/medicine/som/a..._medicine/mbbs

UNCLE/UNE:

• UMAT: To qualify, you need a score of 50+ in each section. After that, interviews are given based on section 1 scores. For 2011, cut-off was around 58 at UNCLE. Not sure about UNE.
• ATAR: 94.30+

UNSW:

• UMAT/ATAR: UNSW takes both into account. Here's the general table for it:
UMAT ATAR
54 99.95
56 99.5
59 99.0
64 98.0
67 97.0
70 96.0
• Median ATAR is around 99.50. Also, take into account only a handful of people under 99 ATAR get passed interviews.

Just want to ask: Is it worth it to do the medentry tutoring or just to study to content yourself because the medentry packages prices are too expensive. It is like $700 or something.

What a waste of time, effort and money if you don't make it in after preparing so much for that exam

Just buy the extra paper from ACER and then maybe get a friend to loan share their medentry papers with you.

I don't think it's worth paying for the prep.

I also think you should start doing puzzles and stuff (s3) and reading more (s2).

YAY!

Also, for people who do the umat and failed their exam, Is that it for their medicine career or can they do the umat again next year?

Just wondering, do you think someone in the 0-20th percentile has a chance at med? LOL

Definitely not for any uni that looks at UMAT. You could do like Usyd or something though which just looks at ATAR (.95 ATAR though...). Sorry :(

Nah one of my friends just asked me.
I'm not too happy with mine as well 74 percentile :(
Well that is my fault for not studying for it properly.

And for people considering to buy those expensive prep courses like medentry or w/e. Don't even bother. Just try to leech off papers from previous students and do the papers that ACER provides.

Re: Umat 2012

63 is shit eh? and there is no way you can do med with 63 right?
depends

If he got
1 - 60
2 - 50
3 - 50

he could get into UNCLE
and that would be around 63rd %ile

EDIT: That's actually around 58th percentile.

Also, if he got
1 - 49
2 - 49
3 - 75
His percentile would be ~86th and he would only have a chance at UNSW with an ATAR of 99.1+
