Re: General Thoughts: Biology

What did you guys answer for the MC one that had the picture of the pathogen and was like which pathogen is this? Cause I was confident in my answer but my friend answered another one so I'm really confused. Lol

It was a bacterium, it had membrane-bound organelles from memory. Eukaryote protozoans do not.
A quick Google search says that Giardia is in fact, a protozoan. FML.

Re: General Thoughts: Biology

Exactly what I did, said the lens, were the LENS of human eye at differing accomodation states, retina as the paper and the water as vitreous humour :D

And put Protozoa for Giardia as people are talking about. I think I got the mature xylem MC wrong though.
I HATED that xylem/phloem question! But I don't remember which answer I put down :(

Why are people saying, (B) It opens stomata in the leaves?

When the stomates open the leaves loose water, that's why plants only open the stomates in the afternoon or early in mourning.

Q18. How does a plant respond in order to keep cool on an extremely hot day?
Shouldn't the answer be, (D) It decreases the number of stomata on the top of the leaves?

I'm confused :S

But it was to keep cool, not to minimise water loss. When you open the stomates, you lose water but it also takes some of the heat with it, hence cooling.
Well, that was my reasoning anyway.

Re: General Thoughts: Biology

I put down that the xylem had cell walls :/ I had no idea tbh haha
Xylem consists of dead cells! So they can't have a cell wall!
Pretty sure the answer was B) Phloem has a cytoplasm.

It was B because all of the other answers involve a change that the plant can't possible make in one day (the question did specify 'a hot day'). It can't grow leaves or w/e and it can't decrease the number of stomata that are present

Yep evaporative cooling is an adaption. Though if it goes for too long it will die. The question implies an unusually hot day so this response wouldn't kill them plant in this case..

As an accelerated biology student who got 95
looked at multiple choice, got to say, much more harder than last year's but should've been manageable
20 is definitely B
