Ewww....

Bump guys I know you SDDers are out there so don't be shy to post. May I ask kindly that you guys do your answers/questions in psuedocode the reason is because everybody here is most likely to know a different language to what you use. We want to be inclusive (SDD pun intended) to catalyse discussion and learn.

Has anyone seen the early SDD papers? They're terrible. They're so vague and are just like "write 7 marks on this". They're just filled with 6-8markers, it's as though the examiners were lazy or something. Nowadays they're so much easier, mostly 2-3 markers, occasionally 4 and very rarely 5. Can't be bothered doing these early papers anymore.

All early papers were like that, we can only ever get a maximum 6 markers now.

I'm glad. Was reading this:

Section I – Core (20 marks)
• There will be objective response questions to the value of 20 marks.

Section II – Core (60 marks)
• There will be approximately 10 questions.
• Questions may consist of short-answer parts.
• There will be approximately 24 items in total.
• At least three items will be worth from 4 to 6 marks.

Section III – Options (20 marks)
• There will be two questions, one for each of the options.
• Candidates will be required to answer the question on the option they have studied.
• Each question will consist of approximately eight short-answer parts

At least three items 4-6 marks...doubtful they'll be 6 markers though, judging from last year, where I didn't even see a 5 marker. Means algorithms should be pretty easy too. As for the option, 8 eight short answer parts, only 20 marks to play with, means a lot of 2-3 markers maybe one 4 marker at most.

I reckon they will have lots of 3, 4, 4 and one 5 this year.

Seems legitimate. Last year's test was quite easy imo, if you studied hard enough you could have got 100 raw, especially seeing as there was like no 5 markers. Wonder if they'll be hard on us this year, or since it's a new syllabus go easy on us. Expecting the latter here.

Did you do the Independent btw?

Yup. I reckon they'll make a harder exam than 2011. But it's just a matter of seeing if your answer fits their guidelines I guess.

My school doesn't always run SDD, but when they do, they teach the most beauteous language of Visual Basic...6.

Hey V.U :p. I hope that's sarcasm, because I can't stand that language at all. I don't like drag & drop. :/

We are unfortunately stuck with Visual Basic .NET

The depths of my hatred for it cannot be fathomed. Since we're doing the Programming Paradigms topic, makes so much sense for us to learn Java...zomg.

Our school does Python. Never touched VB and glad of it :)
You are a lucky man.

Does anyone here have incompetent SDD teachers? Like your teacher read the textbook 5 years ago and that's all they know? It's such a joke at my school. Teacher doesn't know ANY language and gives us these stupid sheets. I'm fine with learning on our own, which is what we do anyway, but why should we be forced to learn VB on our own as opposed to something else.

My teacher has a brilliant mathematical mind but he's not a good teacher. He should be working as a researcher or something, not wasting his time in a high school.

Reminds me of a teacher at my school, teaches Phys/Chem. The guy is a genius, was researching after his PhD or whatever, but then he got married so needed more cash money, and thus he became a teacher...possibly a similar situation with maths? never really understood what mathematicians do lol

Come around Wednesday.

The content in this subject is soo boring to study the 3rd-4th time. Not fascinating like science or economics.

Late night guys lol I wanna be a teacher to help disadvantaged kids someday.

Anyway with regards to software I agree with you the content is a bit dry sometimes but hey we got Richard Buckland to fix that.
