Hey, as most of those doing BESS courses know; as a commerce or business admin student you have to do compulsory subjects, with ACCG100 Accounting IA or ACCG106 Accounting Information for decision making.

http://www.handbook.mq.edu.au/2012/Units/UGUnit/ACCG100

http://www.handbook.mq.edu.au/2012/Units/UGUnit/ACCG106

What is the difference between the two?
Is each better for different courses, combinations or grad opportunities?
Why do more people do one over the other?
Which is easier, in terms of maths,?

Thanks

From what I know, ACCG100 (Accounting 1A) is a must for students intending to major in accounting. It is a platform for ACCG101 (Accounting 1B).

On the other hand, ACCG106 is more for non-accounting students and it gives them the rough foundations. This one is easier I believe.

The above is correct.

If you're not intending to pursue an accounting major, then you'd probably be better off going with 106 and excelling at it.

So if someone doesn't plan on doing an accounting major but decide to choose 106, it'd be hard for them?

I chose 100 because I thought it would be more useful in my degree. I am not doing accounting. Was this a bad choice?

(I had to pick 100 or 106)

No, it is better to pick ACCG100 than ACCG106 as it leaves the option of majoring in Accounting open.

If you did ACCG106 and realised you want to major in Accounting, you will have to do ACCG100 + ACCG101 again.

ACCG106 can be taken instead of ACCG100, but it does not count towards the major.

^ Agreed. But, only if you're absolutely sure you're not taking an Accounting major, take ACCG106.

ACCG106 was mostly theory and I haven't heard a lot of complaining about the subject.
ACCG100 is more the practical questions of account. A fair amount of people in my class found it frustrating, especially by those who weren't majoring in accounting.

EDIT: In terms of maths. 106 is easier, 100 is harder
