I was wondering if anybody knew about extra atar points? I am a rural student. Any examples of how many points you get extra as a rural student? And do you get bonus points for coming first in a subject, despite what subject it is?

Thanks in advance!!

I know it's 5 bonus points for rural students (I got extra 5 bonus points for being in a rural area).
Not sure about coming first in a subject.

Depending on how rural i think the points vary. It also depends on what university you intend on completing study at. Try looking into specific universities as they all offer different bonus point schemes.

Rural school – You must
be attending a school in a town with
a population of less than 10,000 people and a distance of at least 100km from the nearest centre with a population of 10,000
or
You must be attending a school in a town with a population of less than 5,000 people and a distance between 50km and 99km from the nearest centre with a population of 10,000.

This is through the EAS so up to 5 bonus points. If you don't qualify those conditions then your school may also be listed as part of the Priority Schools Program which grants points as well. Some courses do not accept EAS ( e.g Medicine)

You do not get any bonus points for coming first in a subject but you can get bonus points in some courses from some unis(lol) based on your band level for relevant subjects to your course you are applying for.

^rural points calculator, up to 9 points depending on how rural the postcode of your school is.

I qualify for five! Five is the general standard

I'm adding in a few different uni's for you to look at...

http://www.newcastle.edu.au/future-...uly/08-bonus-points.html?audience=high-school

http://www.uow.edu.au/future/bonuspoints/bonus3/index.html - has a list of qualifying schools for 3.

http://www.unsw.edu.au/access-scheme

http://drss.anu.edu.au/student_equity/bonus-points-flyer.pdf - last point on the table

Hope some of these help :)

You will likely quality automatically for EAS. Also many universities have different schemes you may be eligible for like E10, Access etc. An example is at University of Melbourne, if you qualify as a rural student/underrepresented school, you will automatically have a much lower cut off to each of their degrees, and it can be quite a dramatic decrease, Science or Arts without the scheme are normally about a 90, but it drops it to 78. Commerce is normally mid 90s, it drops it to an 85. Biomedicine is normally a 99.something but it drops it to a 95.

Also, at certain universities, band performance in a deemed relevant subject to a degree (i.e Science degree) may have bonus points for Band 4/5/6 in chem, physics, evs, biology etc.

What are you hoping to study and at which university?

I was under the impression that UAC added the bonus points onto your actual ATAR????

No they don't. Your ATAR doesn't change. Only your ranking in the selection of candidates for courses. UAC certifies your eligibility for EAS and then the university chooses which course they are willing to accept EAS.
