Hey guys, I don't know how to solve this question so can anyone tell me how
In a group of 25 students 18 study french, 12 study German and 5 study neither French nor German. If a student is chosen at random what is the probability that he or she studies only studies German?
Thanks

25 students
18- French
12- German
5 study neither french nor german

25-5 = 20 (that means there are 20 students studying french or german)

but 18+12 = 30...... so what that must mean 10 students are doing both subjects.

12-10 = 2 students who are just doing german studies

P(selecting student just doing german studies) is 2/12 =1/6

This is how i would answer this, not 100% sure if correct. but its probability and everybody knows that probability is a bitch :)

I don't think I'm supposed to use this ? I went through my other textbook and found an example though which gave me the concept on how to do these type of questions :D

Thanks for your answer, but where did you get 2/12 from? It should be 2/25 :p

Ugh... I don't know lmao... I never used to study in year 11 and year 12, only started studying like 1-2 months ago. So I'm just doing the whole year 11 and year 12 course again.
EDIT: By the looks of it though, I think we study probability in year 12 as well, since it's in my Maths in Focus textbook.

You should consider a different book to be honest, Maths in Focus is so bad.
