Hey Guys,

This thread goes to everyone who wants to do medicine?

So, I am currently in year 12 and want to study medicine next year at any university (UWS, UNSW etc)

How should I apply, what do I need to do to have a perfect chance at getting an interview. When and how should I apply!

I want to apply to James cook for medicine, they say you need to apply to QTAC, I don't really know what is QTAC. If any of you guys have apply before or know who to apply to Queensland uni, please let me know. As I want to apply asap.

How do you need to apply for medicine through UAC, can you do this? Please explain.

Another question, what if I don't get the desired Atar to get into medicine, what should I do?

YES I WANNA DO MED WHEN I LEAVE SCHOOL!! my brother's mate applied for James Cook uni and he's currently doing his first year of med over there. i'll see if my brother can ask him. or it will be quicker to get an opinion from someone on here. but keep in touch with me...if you want. ok.

oh btw if you don't get your desired atar there are always other pathways into receiving a position in med. you can do medical science then find your way around into doing MBBS or you could do another course that you desire and do a post-grad course for med at the uni.

Bro, you didn't really answer all my questions above, so how should I apply thorugh QTAC for James cook, I know you have to also apply directly be application form.

What would be min Atar I would need, how did you brothers mate got in? what was his atar?

I didn't reply to all because i don't know the answers i'm only in yr 10, mate. Your atar depends on the uni. For example, min. atar for UNSW is 96 but that means you would have to do extremely well in the UMAT. Not too sure about James Cook uni's atar though. His atar was 96.4. I think he applied at the last minute.

let me just add he also got bonus points for a band 6 in english adv. but bonus points don't count if you wanna get into med. of course i'll ask! i'll just have to wait for my brother to come home. what do you want me to ask him ?

I think it's not too bad at having a chance. I hope I'm not giving any false hope here but a friend of mine (who graduated in 2011) got in with an ATAR of 95 and UMAT of 77 into UNCLE. Also, this is a little off-topic but does it *actually* matter what university you go to ?

Ask him these questions please, lol I would want to go to James cook, I might get the Atar.

1. How did he apply through QTAC ( he should now this).
2. What are the other alternative ways, in james cook.
3. What would the min Atar be to get in medicine.
4. Would the university provide a place to stay.
5. How is the study environment there, is the teaching good.

Hey, you exactly right! its good to ask people around, that's what I am doing, which I need you help.

If you help me, I would help you.

Please tell me more how your friend got into uncle with 95 Atar, I might also apply to uncle, do they accept low Umat results. say for example, I get 96 Atar and 80 Umat, would that get a place.

Please find out from you friend, how he applied and all that. Just Pm or post here, I will keep up to date with you.

Please don't hesitate to contact me, nothing is off topic, so please say what you want as long as it is about medicine entry.

I don't really mind which university I study at, as long as I get a place. so thanks you for clarifying that.
