Hey guys,

Basically, I slacked off for the entire year, thinking that I would be ok like before- topping years 7-10 without doing a single piece of homework but realised that this is not the case and that I'm failing maths AND maths extension 1 since there is so much content. What should I do to catch up? How should I study and actually understand the content? I have to admit that maths was terrible this year and our class changed teachers 4 times.

I'm actually aiming for a band 6 in my HSC so I'm guessing it is goodbye social life for me.

If you're going to make a post, at least post something of substance and address the question. Nothing personal, you're simply not helping the OP in any way.

@OP:

So to catch up, I'd start from the very basics (assuming you're completely screwed for everything) and use a relatively simple textbook ie. Maths in Focus purely because the exercises are VERY easy and this will help build up morale and confidence. When covering the theory, you can use the Internet and also Khan Academy if you have time. When you finish these easy questions, move on to Cambridge/Fitzpatrick and then past papers.

To understand the content, keep asking "Why?". Now I'm not the greatest mathematician out here but in my opinion, you should simply research questions regarding concepts via Google, Wikipedia and such. Alternatively, just post up here and people will be free to help you - although I did understand lots of concepts through Youtube and such. I also had the Cambridge 3U textbook which is really good at debriefing contexts and going into great depth.

There is no doubt a lot you have to do but with a solid work ethic you'll pull through.

I there a rule that insists that all responses should be helpful?

You've got ages. Revise the 3 terms you've done and go through everything making sure you understand all the concepts, I suggest you retry your topic tests once you have revised and understand most of the content. If you cannot get the answer use the answers to help you.

After this start picking off questions you can do from past papers and ask the teacher for help when you don't understand something.

Instead of saying goodbye to your social life maybe you can make a group to do maths together possibly in a free or something with your peers.. may work.. orr work during the day socialise at night.

Exactly right! ^

You have alot of time, just make sure you divide you time for each subject, don't just focus in maths in HSC, cause it will impact you Atar. Studying hard for 10 units = 99.95 ATAR, just focusing in maths would = 50.95 Atar. make the right decision mate!

Exactly as above, I agree. make sure you speck to your teachers, asked them questions, learn from you mistakes, don't make it again. simple as that, get out past papers, start doing the hard questions always, don't just do the easy questions.
