I want to get into Medicine, and so I have to do the umat and get well in it. I am not doing biology, but now I think I should. Do you think doing biology helps in the UMAT?

UMAT doesn't require any content knowledge. For any question relating to biology, information will be given in the question. Do bio for the sake of UMAT is a massive overkill.

I suggest you don't pick up Biology because you think it will 'benefit' you in the UMAT. As said above, all the information will be provided in the passage and most questions would not relate to the contents in bio, chem and physics. Doing biology wouldn't guarantee success and if you don't enjoy the subject, it could be pretty bad for your HSC.
