Deactivated Facebook last week.
I'm not leaving it deactivated for a whole year but maybe for a month or so, has anyone deactivated? If so how did you cope with the boredom and the lack of easy socialisation with all 1500 of your "friends"

It's not that I'm not a social person but it's more a test of will power, that being said i wish i had more contacts on my phone/email.

I didn't deactivate.

It's more of a test if you can keep it and still focus in your studies + other commitments.

I actually just made a new fb last week woops.

Facebook isn't hard to stay off of anyway. And I know heaps of people who had it during hsc, and pulled off amazing ATARs - all about balance tbh :)

All about self-control and the way you use it.

I generally use it when I need to ask someone something regarding school work or when im not doing any work at all (sometimes I'm doing assignments I go on though :p). If I find myself in a situation where I'm going on to Facebook whilst studying, I turn on an application that I have called "ColdTurkey" and it allows you to block sites that it has in its list.

I'm keeping my Facebook to use it for my group pages which often have really important things

If you're scared you'll get distracted too much but still want to use it, make another account but limit who you're friends with and join groups you need to join. That's what my friend did and I'm not sure if it's working out but it does limit the amount of distractions there :)

Or you can keep yourself so busy you won't even need to use Facebook ever

This. I use one a chrome extension called Stayfocusd (without the 'e') which limits the amount of time you can spend per day on websites of your choosing. You can also block them completely for a certain period of time (e.g. 3 hours) or a certain time of day (say between 5 pm.-8 pm.) You can also block the page that lets you uninstall the application or change the settings so that it's impossible to get on a blocked site until the time has expired. Been helping me a lot so far.

Develop the skills to avoid it yourself, this will help you in the longterm (not just in the hsc).

Get more phone numbers then :p
It's not really that bad, remember the HSC is not purely study! You also need to factor in a social life and sleep or you will burn out.
So make sure your friends include you in everything and you'll be fine.

Lol I just deleted mine. Personally, I just think FB is dead, all I ever saw on my newsfeed were 13 y.o. girls posing thinking they were sexy (obviously deluded), vine videos (not bad, but so goddamn repetitive) and my favourite band updates (these were cool, but 90% of the time didn't concern me).

Also, if I didn't start a conversation with somebody, there would be none. "Social-networking" my ass.

Most people who delete Facebook will find another medium to procrastinate ...finding a method / technique of self control is much effective .

Very true. Turning off the internet altogether, studying at the library for a few hours (without internet access) or using the pomodoro technique might help.

I actually deleted it at the start of year 11 after being a ridiculous user of it in year 10. Ultimately you will still try and find a way to procrastinate but I feel like I did pretty well without it. And also it's not a big deal now on year 12 not having it.

If you're not into Facebook then deactivate it all you want but with that being said you wouldn't need to if you never go on it. Believe it or not, Facebook actually helps you keep up to date on things if your year group has a special group for you guys to ask each other questions, for help or when it comes to planning for muck-up & etc. It's all about self control.
