Of course it arises in the proof, but it is not examinable. You will not find it in any past Ext 1 exams, and you'll be hard pressed to find any examples in Ext 1 textbooks.
I remember using it often in MX1 and was familiar with it when we started mechanics in MX2 though? :s
Perhaps my memory is faded however

I still reckon that it could be asked as a 3U Q14. They supplied you with v(dv/dx), and the resistance didn't involve any constants. It was either an extremely watered down 4U question or an E4 range 3U question. I lean more towards hard 3U.

I thought it is in 3U. Here's an example from 2001 hsc. acceleration = -4x. find x as a function of t if x=3, v = 6root3 when t=0. Wouldnt your first step be to use v (dv/dx) = -4x and integrate?

Wouldn't it be easier to use d(1/2v^2)/dx for that one?

outcome would be the same. doesnt really make it any quicker

theres no difference between the two. they would take the same amount of lines, wouldnt they?
I've just found that it always seems to be easier to use d(1/2v^2)/dx in 3U. Just my preference I guess.

I'm aiming for 85 raw as well. Will probably drop to 50 when I get into the exam room though.

What im scared of, is the fact that 2012 paper was somewhat easy, and Im wondering if they'll blow us out of the water with the paper this year... do they alternate with easy and hardcore that much? idk...

I think a lot of people were screwed over with english and the "time and place" thing in modules, maybe the Board has decided to make every exam totally radical and new and unexpected....

SuperSAIyan, what are you aiming for bud?

Yea can anyone who did a few exams this week confirm, have they all been much different to what you were expecting? Did u find them a lot more challenging than past years?

That's also the case with MX1. Last years paper was most likely the easiest extension 1 paper ever written, so this year might be insanely difficult even for 4U kids.

Just go in assuming it's going to be an extremely difficult exam - so if it is difficult, you'll still do well, and if it's easy you'll do extremely well :)

Hoping it's difficult. A nice Q16 integration proof combined with inequalities that is conceptual would be nice.

why would you want it hard??? Oh well, to each their own, I guess.

I'm aiming for 70+. My trial marks were disappointing, so I'm aiming for the 60-75 range.... Did anyone else fail their trials for MX2? (not that I'd failed..., I was one of the 3 out of 8 in the class that actually got over 50/100)

Hope its hard too. Last yrs was pretty nice. If last question is integration that'd kill most people. The by parts questions take forever.

lol.. I'm aiming for 70%-75% raw. 4u is well and truly my weakest subject.
Completely relying on the scaling to pull me up hahahha :D
