Question 5 was related to nuclear chem and isotopes, but to answer the question you didn't really need to know about isotopes and stuff

Just notifying that the exam papers are uploaded. Supervisors at my place didn't have spares for some reason so I don't have any short answer sections. Will check on Friday (after I do my Physics) for one, and if they do have it I'll upload the short answer section as well.

I talked about both processes. I was gonna talk about compromise in pressure since high pressure may lead to explosion of containers leading to escaping of dangerous SO3 gas to the environment but didn't have time... hopefully they give me 5-6

I also talked about how fossil fuels will most likely be used to generate the heat required so by lowering it, less CO2, SO2, etc. will be produced into the environment causing global warming and acid rain.
I think this is the worst industrial chem 7 marker ever. In past years, it wasn't so restrictive and there was much more to talk about.

I included that for the first step of the contact process sulphuric acid is used as a dehydrating agent to dry the oxygen reacted, thus we lose some yield of sulphuric acid to benefit the environment.

Also we convert SO3 to oleum first instead of converting it straight to sulphuric acid as it will cause a stable mist and thermal pollution. We use some sulphuric acid in producing oleum, so yield is lost so that we don't harm the environment.

I did other stuff but it's been mentioned in previous posts.

I know the feel. There was only two left in the exam room in ours. I ranked second, but everyone else is gonna do so shithouse that I can say goodbye to any chance of a band 6. Three quarters of the class left as soon as the first hour was up

I got 2.18 or something like that for that question.


What do u all think u got raw? I know for sure i got 18/20 for MC, and for sure lost 1-2 marks off in option, and 1-2 marks off core, though marking criteria obviously could kill off substantially more marks. As well as the fact I might not have picked up on mistakes I might have done lol.

yeah its J Kg^-1 K^-1, but the temperature isn't in kelvin, so its not K^-1, thats why I'm asking.

haha mate its the same thing. 1 kelvin increase = 1 degrees celsius increase.. doesn't matter

Chem is probably the only exam I'm happy with atm (lost <5 marks so far, hoping for 93-94+ HSC mark).. could've done better in 4u and eng T_T

Would I still get full marks if I had all the numbers right on paper but got the wrong answer?

Anyone know what the deal is with the scanning? Pretty sure I wrote well over the bottom line for the ozone question, but left a note at the top saying "wrote past the bottom line". :/ Really worried it won't get read.

no the HSC chem papers are not scanned, as they did not have the little right angles at each corner of each page. In business studies however it did, and i know for a fact that they only started scanning them last year. for now (2013) chemistry is not scanned, or it would have specific margins for which you would have to write it. dw, i wrote a fuckload too.
