Are any ofthese topics too inappropriate, or over done for the PIP:

- Dehumnisation (I don’t have an actual question for this but I’d like to do something related to the concept)
- Sexualisation of children (specifically, young girls)
- Promotion of a rape culture in modern society

I wanted to do something gender studies related but I think they may be too sensitive.

I personally don't think there's anything inappropriate about these topics. They are very real and very relevant. In regards to being overdone, I think that there are so many people doing a pip that originality is very hard to come by when choosing a topic. However, the way you put it together should be unique so try to look for an angle that you can call yours as your pip should be personal to a point. Just steer clear from racism, bullying and all those typical things imo.

You could maybe do something like dehumanisation in regards to rape culture (people who say that men can't control themselves and girls should cover up, giving men animal-like qualities). Sexualisation of children is also very good specially with all the toddlers and tiaras gunk going on, but it has a media element to it and media is something everyone does so unless you can make it unique, I wouldn't recommend it. Also, this is not related to gender studies or anything but one thing that I think would be interesting is the glorification of depression amongst teens these days, it's seriously everywhere! It's quite appalling that people make a mental disease sound romantic and in some ways, due to this, people don't take it as seriously as they would take cancer for example.

I'm not sure if you've figured out your topic yet, but to be honest I feel that those ideas are way too risky. I recently went the the PIP day in the city and not only my teacher but all the speakers from the SAC association warned profusely against anything that is too confronting and involves unethical research methods- especially the promotion of rape culture. I definitely would not do that as it would most likely involve in conducting various research methodologies which could be triggers for anyone who has been affected by what you are researching... I hope that makes sense, the speakers at the PIP day who are also markers were very adamant that PIPs have to be completely ethical and that ones that aren't are pretty much guaranteed not to be received well. I hope that makes sense and helps anyone who is wondering about topics of those sorts. Good luck!!

If you want to do something about gender studies, maybe look at something less "controversial"? I.e. Gender neutral parenting, "breaking the stereotype" or whatever. I don't do SaC, but a few of my friends do and they were advised to veer away from stuff like rape because it can be very sensitive, etc. clear it with your teacher first.

Gender neutrality is very interesting if you wanted a less risky topic
You could look into the socialisation of our children and the effects of this
Perhaps narrow it to a specific age range, or culture and compare
If you add a twist to a topic like that, your PIP becomes different to the rest

Personally, I think the last two are absolutely not appropriate for a PIP. Although they are relevant, you aren't being socially literate of you talk about them, and plus, you're still a minor, teachers shouldn't allow you to do them.

The first one seems okay though, I'd love to hear how you elaborated on that.

Fuck sensitivity, these are issues that need to be discussed and not hidden away and ignored. The very fact that it is viewed as "inappropriate" rings a bell.

I forgot about this thread.. thanks for your replies, but I can't really do these topics. The teacher said the PIP people/markers/whatever don't allow it because I'm 'underage' and 'shouldn't be exposed to these especially via school stuff' or whatever lol oh well...
