Ive heard a lot of people talk about uni as a fresh start. In my case i went to a school ranked ~600 so like all my friends are going tafe im the only going uni. Ive also kinda fallen out with them they werent the greatest people imo so i was just wondering whether its easy to start a completely new social life from purely uni alone whilst not knowing anyone there.

Obviously it won't be super easy if you are not a outgoing person, but I think university will be what you make of it-I mean everyone will be on the same boat, I personally don't know anyone doing my course and I think this goes for a lot of others as well, so as long as you are proactive and desire to make friends and willing to speak up rather than being shy and quiet, then establishing new friends shouldn't be very hard:) Best wishes for an enjoyable university experience-I am feeling a bit anxious myself:)

Uni is definitely a fresh start, esp when you're the only one from your school doing that course. It's really what you make out of it. If you're anti social, or just attend class and go home, then obviously you won't have much friends. Just join as many clubs and societies as possible and try to be friendly and make friends.

Uni can be a fresh start if many people from your school did not attend it after gradations h.s, but that's just part of life.

Work will be a new start too :). Just be yourself and put yourself out there! (Seriously, it isn't that difficult)

I think half of my grade (+) ended up at the same uni as me yet I hardly see them and it was really great to meet new people and see the old on the rare occasion. I see many people stick with the people from their old high schools and I don't think that's bad at all. If you want to, you can. You can do whatever you want! The good thing is that you aren't stuck with the same people all day, there are so many new people to meet, so many places to hang out and so much to do so you best be open to new experiences and opportunities and you'll feel great!

As long as you break away from your high school friends and reach out towards others, you'll be fine.

The majority of people I know, who haven't really grown up much, are those who stick around with their high school friends all the way through University still.

Don't mix too much with your high school friends, they usually tend to make you stay as a child.

Lol. A few friends of mine from High School will catch the same train although go to different unis. Depending on times and everything, I might end up staying with them throughout those train rides. But at uni its a different story.

Well yeah, train rides don't last any longer than 1hr in most cases. If a whole group of high school friends follow you throughout the entire day at uni (if doing the same subjects), then forget it.

From a social sense, uni can definitely be a fresh start because obviously you will be surrounded by totally different people. Also, you will probably notice that you form different types of friendships because those people are just meeting you as opposed to those that have known you for years. Like, friends that I have met during uni perceive me totally differently in some ways to my school friends (who I am still close with). I havent changed much personally, but the dynamic can change depending on the lifestage at which people first meet you.

That being said, old habits die hard and if you have had issues with friendships and stuff in HS, they can re-emerge in newer friendships circles.

No definitely not. They will be doing different subjects (there may be one person doing the same in first year but no way for second year or above).

You shouldn't have a problem at all then! If you encounter some friend that you don't feel like coming into contact with, turn around and then runaway as fast as possible.

Just want to add that people tend to mature very quickly once they start uni.

I definitely agree with this as well - I have a few friends who are fresh out of HS and the difference in maturity between them and my other mates is easily noticable.

Nah its a good friend (like one that I will want to go to not run away).

Hopefully that will make my resolution easier.
